Picture Book Review! Dooly and the Snortsnoot by Jack Kent is my
favorite children's book in the history of forever! Dooly is such a fantastic
underdog. He is a misfit with the kids at school and even with his own family.
I love both the words and the illustrations in this book and memorized them as a
child. I had the opportunity to read to my daughter's class last year, and this
was my first pick! What a joy to see that the kids loved it as much as I did!
When I was in college, we had a speaker who mentioned Jack Kent. My ears perked up. I approached her after the presentation to tell her of my shared love of the fabulous Mr. Kent. She was great friends with his family. She told me that he had passed away, but shared his son's email address with me. I emailed him later that week and told him how much joy his father's books had brought me. He was so thankful for that. And as I think about it all these years later, I'm a bit jealous of the younger Mr. Kent. He has bookshelves full of his father's creations, a glimpse into his soul.
Wouldn't that be beautiful if we all had something tangible from our loved ones who have passed on? It makes me want to write everything down for my babies...
Back to the book!!
Dooly and the Snortsnoot is now out of print, but if you ever see it in a used bookstore, snatch it
right up!
