The Blurb
It's Ginger's birthday. She is excited to invite all the girls in her class--except Lyla Browning. Lyla was weird. Once she even brought a tarantula in a pickle jar for show and tell. But Ginger's mom said she had to invite Lyla too.
On the day of the party, Lyla shows up VERY early. Awkward. The other girls soon arrived...and acted like total brats. But not Lyla Browning. Soon Ginger realizes that being your own weird and wonderful self is ok...and makes you a fantastic friend.
My Two Cents
I am in love with this book. It isn't new...it just caught my eye while I was at the library. The illustrations are TO DIE FOR, y'all! For real. Perfectly awkward Lyla Browning belongs framed somewhere in my house. And the story of "real" people and "real" friendship is fantastic. You don't have to go along with the crowd. You don't have to be validated by the masses. You just need that one terrific friend who gets you...
A lovely lesson for children and grown ups alike.
