Maybe it's because my mother has dragged me all over the place looking at headstones and censuses...maybe it's because I love history...maybe it's because it's a true story...
Maybe it's because my own Mrs. Hughes just passed away. Her name was Mrs. Wanda Marlowe and she was an absolute gem. She loved and encouraged all the kids she taught...and lots of kids she didn't. And she inspired us! I will never forget her precious voice saying, "If God closes a door, He opens a window." So maybe the book touched a special place in me...
Whatever the reason, I loved the book! I cried. Seriously. Don't laugh. I choked up completely each time Houston mentioned the "faraway places" Mrs. Hughes dreamed of throughout her life.
Her story is really an every (wo)man story. She has hopes and dreams and passions, but often responsibilities change those...or delay them anyway. This is the story of a woman whose dreams exceeded her life span.
I'm desperately trying not to give anything away because you WILL want to read My Great Aunt Arizona!
