Jack : The True Story of Jack & the Beanstalk

Jack :  The True Story of Jack & the Beanstalk
by Liesl Shurtliff
published by Knopf Books for Young Readers

So remember how I kinda fell in author love with Liesl Shurtliff last year?!  Well, she's been at it again and has another fabulous fractured fairy tale out!  Jack:  the true story of Jack & the Beanstalk is finally here!!

We all know the story of Jack and the Bean Stalk, but Liesl Shurtliff has revitalized it in a way that only she can.  She combined elements from multiple Jack and the Bean Stalk re-tellings to create her own.  Jack is a naughty little boy...always getting into trouble...always harassing his darling little sister...and happy to suffer the consequences of his pranks.  But when Jack is unfairly accused of snatching the neighbors cabbages, he vehemently denies involvement.  And then, when the town is attacked by giants, it is clear that Jack didn't do it.  But when the giants came, they took his Papa!  This very mischievious, very brave boy goes off to save him.  But don't worry girls, there is plenty of girl power to be found in the book, too!

If you haven't read Rump, Liesl's debut, yet...start with that one and then read this!  I love her voice and I think you might just love it too!
