Summer is my favorite season for reading! The sun, the breeze, and a fabulous book? Count me in! But I must confess, sometimes these lists really challenge me! I love ALL THE BOOKS! If I'm forced to narrow down what I'm dying to read first this summer though, this would be the list: Miss Rapscott's Girls by Elise Primavera published by Dial Books Headmistress Miss Rapscott is part Mary Poppins, part social satire. The girls at her school all have exceptionally busy parents, but once they reach the school, their worlds are filled with adventure! Serafina and the Black Cloak by Robert Beatty published by Disney Hyperion Serafina secretly lives in the basement of the Biltmore. She has promised not to leave, but when people start going missing, she may have no choice...
Believarexic by J.J. Johnson published by Peachtree Publishers Jennifer was an anorexic, a bulimic, and she got help. She promised herself that when she was grown, she would help others. Bad Girls by Jane Yolen published by Charlesbridge Jane Yolen and her daughter Heidi E. Y. Stemple tell the tales of 26 notorious bad girls. Dumplin' by Julie Murphy published by Balzer and Bray Willowdean Dickson is a big gal and she's totally good with that. But when she meets a hottie that (to her surprise!) likes her back, she begins doubting herself...and that's when she signs up for the pageant in true Texas form! (I'm a big Julie Murphy fan. Dumplin' doesn't come out until Fall, but I'm hoping to get a copy over the summer. Fingers crossed!)
Poet: The Remarkable Story of George Moses Horton by Don Tate published by Peactree Publishers The story of Horton, the first African American to be published in the South. Saving Lucas Biggs by Marisa de los Santos published by Harper Collins Margaret is certain that her father is innocent, but Judge Biggs finds him guilty anyway. Only she can help save him, but it will mean using her secret time travelling ability. (Hoping to read this one with my Bluebonnet Book Club girls!)
Grimly Jane by Elle Alexander published by Oliver Press Jane Worthington is treated cruelly at the Rudorf Home for Foundlings. One day, while locked away, this little orphan finds a secret door.
Savor by Shauna Niequist published by Zondervan A daily devotional that's like sitting around the table with a friend swapping recipes and sharing your faith? That's what Savor promises! The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan published by Grand Central Publishing Sisters, travel, a sweet romance, and a royal wedding make for a light, fun, romantic read for the summer.
