My guys have a birthday today! Five years has just flown by. I seriously feel like a just wrote the post about the books they enjoyed at age four! Their energy is endless...their laughter contagious...and their minds are always racing. I can still get them to sit for a while to read--IF I choose books that interest them.
Here are a few that are sure bets!
Dinotrux
by Chris Gall
published by Little Brown Books for Young Readers
The cool thing about this book is that it's recently been made into an animated series. In boy world, that somehow boosts the cool level. There are also several easy readers featurning the Dinotrux--I mention this because you can make a nice segue into independent reading with this series.
Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
by Bill Martin, Jr. and John Archambault
illustrated by Lois Ehlert
published by Little Simon
This is one of those books that was an instant classic. Everyone loves it. My boys love matching up the letters with their "mamas and papas" and looking at all the injuries, too! Another fabulous choice for pre-readers.
Pirates Love Underpants
by Claire Freedman
illustrated by Ben Cort
published by Aladdin
I want to tell you that there is some educational reason that I chose this book...but there's not one! The bottom line is that boys find underwear hilarious. This book is a cute rhyming book with a funny story (even if it is about unmentionables!)
Everyone Poops
by Taro Gomi
published by Kane Miller
We received this as a gift when my daughter was younger. She thought it was funny...but my boys roar with laughter every time we read it! Boys love potty humor and this book is half funny, half educational.
Actual Size
by Steve Jenkins
published by HMH Books for Young Readers
SUCH a cool book. Sometimes kids have a hard time grasping the size of something, but this book puts that to rest with its awesome illustrations.
I hope you love these as much as we do!
