Tomorrow is Earth Day, so I came up with this fun list of Earth Day themed children's books! There are so many fun books that are all about protecting the planet and going green. One of my favorites is the Dr. Seuss book The Lorax. When the movie came out, I HAD to take my baby girl and a friend to see it--but I may have wanted to see it more than both of them!
If your kiddo isn't really all that into going green, here are some books with characters they love that address the issue:
Fancy Nancy: Every Day Is Earth Day by Jane O'Connor
Fancy Nancy lovers will adore this book!
We Are Extremely Very Good Recyclers (Charlie & Lola series) by Lauren Child
This adventure is printed on FSC-approved paper and includes recycling tips as well as a tree poster just like Lola's!
I love Lauren Child! Here are my reviews for Maude: The Not So Noticeable Shrimpton and Hubert Horation Bartle Bobton-Trent
Curious George Plants A Tree by H.A. Rey
Features include the following:
• A plantable bookmark with wildflower seeds
• Twenty kid-friendly tips for a greener world
• Printed on chlorine-free and acid-free paper from responsibly managed sources, certified by the Forestry Stewardship Council
• Printed with environmentally friendly soy inks
Did you know...? The new Rey Center at the Margret & H.A. Rey Center in Waterville, New Hampshire will a model for energy conservation, using solar panels and wind generators for its electricity. It will reuse and slow-release stormwater, and treat its “gray water” (from sinks/showers) in a constructed wetland.
Have a super environmentally friendly Earth Day!!!

As the class librarian for B's preschool class, I'm in charge of scouring the library system for books on whatever themes the teachers are using for each month. I'm feeling pretty cool that I found that same Fancy Nancy one for Earth Day! :-)
ReplyDeleteThere is no doubt that you're cool, emk!! I think it's awesome that you are the class librarian!
